On the night of December 22, 2025, I stood alone in the cold air.
The city was lit up with the glow of year-end parties, and everyone was trying to celebrate “the end.”
But I alone was immersed in an unprecedented silence.
From the moment I decided to propose a new concept, words stopped being born.
There are mountains of things I want to write.
Yet the right words simply will not come.
Words like “healing” and “rest” feel too clichéd and shallow.
When I try to create an entirely new concept to replace them, the weight of language stops my fingers.
I am just one human being.
I put on a mask in front of the mirror, try to be perfect, and return to a room by myself.
The deep breath that escapes at that moment is not from the fatigue of daily life.
It is awe toward the thoughts I am about to bring into the world.
“Is this really okay?”
The doubt that “this silence itself may be the truth” stops my hand.
This silence is not stagnation.
It is the labor pains of the soul just before a new thought is born.
If you are now fighting with “something” in your night room and have lost your words,
please stay with me for a little while.
I will turn the “discipline” I grasped at the end of this blank space into words, one by one.
I will leave here a record of desperately turning formless silence into form.
Starting to write even after losing words.
That very posture is already the beginning of this new concept.
This magazine is a record of transforming the silence you are feeling right now in your night room,
not into mere “rest,” but into a discipline (training) that you protect and actively create for yourself.
What begins here is the genealogy of rest.
I will carefully trace it from Greek leisure to Eastern wuwei, to modern brain fatigue, and finally hand the new concept of “Defensive Active Wuwei (Defensive Wuwei)” clearly to the reader.
